LEARN MOREWe began our journey in Kenya and launched our first app Akida
(“swahili for supervisor”). Akida was first used in Kenya within the security industry to help security companies confirm the right guards reported on duty and on time. The guards also use Akida to record real time patrols, handovers and incident reports to support informed and timely response to absenteeism and incidents.
Akida's feature on the Daily Nation and word of mouth captured the attention of other industries including marketing agencies, facilities management and not for profit organisations. We partnered with Microsoft 4Afrika to support us with both hands-on skills and resources to serve our growing customer needs. We won a Microsoft Innovation grant to support market Akida. Akida continues to be the preferred solution for simple, reliable reporting and now caters for needs of global clients in Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia, Nigeria and Ghana.
We partnered with the University of Leicester, UK to jointly develop ForestSentinel App. ForestSentinel enables forest owners to receive rapid deforestation alerts. The alerts and real time forest reports enable timely interventions of illegal logging to help protect forests. We are working with the University to make it the preferred forest app for near real time deforestation alerts. ForestSentinel won an award in the Sustainable Living Challenge by the Satellite Applications Catapult, #Copernicus Masters, 2017. On 3rd April 2017, we began our journey in the UK and incorporated Ukall under the Registrar of Companies for England and Wales.
Our second App Uwanjani (swahili meaning for “in the field”) was developed in response to Excel Chemical's (Kenyan based manufacturer and distributor) request to provide a structured sales and merchandising solution. Excel Chemicals allowed us insights to automate their paper based reporting. Uwanjani is now used in Kenya and Tanzania for sales and merchandising. It supports a wide range of products with various SKUs such as water, juices, meats and dairy products.
Our established team comprises of passionate software engineers, designers and systems support engineers. Partnership with Microsoft 4Afrika allows us access to skilled resources from across Microsoft. The resources volunteer their time, talent and considerable expertise whenever required. We also partner with Zalego to help identify and train the best software engineers for us. Zalego also offers us hands on development support whenever we need extra hands.
